Tuesday 10/1/1916: Douglas and Vance receive Pitcher of the Month award
It's the 1st time that the American Pitcher of the Month award goes to Philadelphia (A)'s pitcher Phil Douglas. He had an ERA of just 1.23 in 44 innings of work in which he struck out 13 hitters. His record in September is 3-1. Phil pitched a shutout as well. Phil has a record of 19-20 this season, with an ERA of 3.13. In 368 Innings he was able to strike out 130 batters. Phil has pitched 3 shutouts and 38 complete games. He's 7th in the American in ERA and 7th in wins! Dazzy Vance couldn't have pitched much better than he did in September, and the National thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. He struck out 42 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 3-2 while pitching 42 innings. His ERA in September was 1.20. Dazzy has a record of 28-7 this season, with an ERA of 1.81. In 353 Innings he was able to strike out 276 batters. He has 31 complete games and 5 shutouts. He's 1st in the National in ERA and 1st in wins!
 
Tuesday 10/1/1916: Jackson (BOA) and Wheat (BON) win monthly award
The American Batter of the Month award goes to Joe Jackson, Boston (A)'s starting leftfielder. He had an on base percentage of .489 and hit .434, while driving in 17 runs. While compiling an on base percentage of .440, Joe hit .356 and slugged .591. He has collected 117 runs batted in this year. He's 2nd in the American in batting, 2nd in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! Boston (N)'s leftfielder Zack Wheat had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National Batter of the Month. He hit .413 with 16 RBI and slugged .627 in 75 at bats. Zack has gone 172 for 530 (.325) this season, hitting 5 longballs and driving in 84 runs. He has scored 80 runs on his own. He's 7th in the National in batting, 8th in homeruns and 9th in RBI!
 
Monday 9/23/1916: Walker (NYA) and Meusel (PIT) win P.O.W. award
New York (A)'s centerfielder Tilly Walker had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American Player of the Week. He hit .520 with 5 RBI and slugged .800 in 25 at bats. While compiling an on base percentage of .352, Tilly hit .283 and slugged .463. He has collected 128 runs batted in this year. He's 1st in the American in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! The National Player of the Week award goes to Irish Meusel, Pittsburgh's starting leftfielder. He hit .538 with 7 RBI and slugged .692 in 26 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
 
Friday 9/20/1916: Eddie Collins has 2000th career hits
WASHINGTON - New York (A)'s players had every reason to congratulate Eddie Collins, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! Along with his 2000 hits, Eddie collected 34 homeruns and 846 RBI in 10 seasons. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I gave everything I could to help my team.' With one out in the 7th inning, Eddie drilled a double, causing a standing ovation from the crowd.
 
Monday 9/16/1916: Sallee and Marquard win Player of the Week award
Slim Sallee of Cleveland wins his 9th Player of the Week award for dominating American's hitters the entire week. Slim went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.50, while fanning 3 in 18 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .309 against Slim this season. While posting an ERA of 4.10 he went 12-19 in 39 starts, fanning 85 and walking 47 hitters. He has 26 complete games and one shutout. Cincinnati's pitcher Rube Marquard had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National Player of the Week. Rube went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.50, while fanning 11 in 18 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well.
 
Tuesday 9/10/1916: Tom Hughes turns in great performance against Philadelphia (A)
PHILADELPHIA (A) - Age doesn't matter. At least Washington's right-hander Tom Hughes shares this opinion. The 37 year old pitched a 2-hit shutout against Philadelphia (A), recording his 1st shutout of the season. Hughes (12-14) struck out 9 and issued 1 BB, throwing 71 of 110 pitches for strikes. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Washington's second baseman Larry Doyle collected 1 hit in 4 trips to the plate. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Hughes. Washington improved its record to 71-71, scoring 2 runs on 5 hits.
 
Monday 9/9/1916: Jamieson and Hughes win Player of the Week award
It's the 1st time that the American Player of the Week award goes to Philadelphia (A)'s leftfielder Charlie Jamieson. Charlie was on fire, hitting .640 with 0 HR and 5 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 19 game hitting streak right now. Jamieson has hit no longballs this year while batting .337. He adds 24 doubles, along with 80 runs scored. He's 6th in the American in batting! It's the 7th time that the National Player of the Week award goes to Philadelphia (N)'s pitcher Tom Hughes. Tom went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.50, while fanning 10 in 18 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. In 34 starts this year Tom struck out 152 batters in 287 innings of work. His ERA is 3.32, his record 14-14. Tom has pitched 3 shutouts and 24 complete games.
 
Monday 9/2/1916: Cleveland's Smith wins Player of the Week award
Cleveland's pitcher Charlie Smith had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American Player of the Week. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.50 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. Charlie has a record of 15-19 this season, with an ERA of 3.60. In 322.2 Innings he was able to strike out 97 batters. He has 31 complete games and 4 shutouts. The Player of the Week award in the National goes to New York (N)'s Rogers Hornsby this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Hornsby helped his team with an average of .579 and 3 RBI in 19 at bats.

Winner of this months American Pitcher of the Month award is St.Louis(A)'s Jesse Barnes. His ERA of just 1.93 helped him to a 6-2 record in August. He worked 70 innings, striking out 16 hitters while walking 5. Jesse pitched a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .267 against Jesse this season. While posting an ERA of 2.36 he went 11-4 in 17 starts, fanning 37 and walking 11 hitters. Jesse has pitched one shutout and 12 complete games. Chicago (N)'s Dazzy Vance had a terrific August, and it earned him the National Pitcher of the month award. He struck out 48 hitters in his 8 starts, putting together a record of 8-0 while pitching 48 innings. His ERA in August was 1.41. Dazzy pitched a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .214 against Dazzy this season. While posting an ERA of 1.90 he went 25-5 in 35 starts, fanning 234 and walking 40 hitters. He has 26 complete games and 5 shutouts. He's 1st in the National in ERA and 2nd in wins!

Boston (A)'s leftfielder Joe Jackson had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American Batter of the Month. Joe was on fire, hitting .333 with 4 homeruns and 24 RBI. Jackson has hit for a .342 average this season. He has 59 extra base hits along with 256 total bases, resulting in a .565 slugging percentage. He's 4th in the American in batting, 2nd in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! Ty Cobb of Chicago (N) wins his 26th Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the National. Ty went 55 for 110 (.500), while hitting 0 HR and collecting 27 RBI. Ty is hitting .440 this year, with 222 hits in 505 at bats. He has driven in 90 runs, slugging .590. He's 1st in the National in batting and 3rd in RBI!
 
Saturday 8/31/1916: Charlie Smith quiets Washington bats with shutout
CLEVELAND - Charlie Smith took the mound and never left. And Washington hitters couldn't touch him at all. Cleveland's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 4th shutout of the season. He now has 35 career shutouts in 619 games started. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Smith (15-19) struck out 3 and issued 5 BB, throwing 66 of 124 pitches for strikes. Carson Bigbee helped Smith at the plate, he collected 3 hits in 3 trips to the plate, hitting a double. The final score of the game was 2-0.
 
Monday 8/26/1916: Player of the Week honors go to Coveleski and Sisler
The American's best player of the week was New York (A)'s Stan Coveleski, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Coveleski was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.50. Along the way he struck out 7 in 18 innings. He was able to complete both starts of the week. His ERA of 2.84 helped him to a 19-10 record this year. He struck out 75 and walked 51 in 295 innings. Friday 8/23/1916: Cincinnati has no chance in a 1-hitter by Rube Kroh
BOSTON (N) - Great days are rare. But not for Boston (N)'s southpaw Rube Kroh. Cincinnati found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 4th shutout this season, and the 19th time he has done it in his career. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Kroh (19-13) fanned 6 and walked 7, throwing 148 pitches. The hitting star for Boston (N) was catcher Hank Severeid, he went 0 for 3. Boston (N) improved its record to 70-56, scoring 1 run on 2 hits.
 
Monday 8/19/1916: Detroit's Stock wins Player of the Week award
Milt Stock from Detroit wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American. Milt pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .438 with 2 HR and 9 RBI while slugging .656. The National's best player of the week was Brooklyn's Smokey Joe Wood, who wins the award for the 8th time in his career. Wood was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.50. Along the way he struck out 17 in 18 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. Smokey Joe has a record of 20-10 this season, with an ERA of 2.25. In 271.2 Innings he was able to strike out 215 batters. Sunday 8/18/1916: Smokey Joe Wood pitches his 6th shutout of the season
PHILADELPHIA (N) - Smokey Joe Wood took the mound and never left. And Philadelphia (N) hitters couldn't touch him at all. Brooklyn's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 6th shutout of the season. Thursday 8/15/1916: Zip Zabel turns in great performance against Cincinnati
BROOKLYN - Brooklyn's right-hander Zip Zabel is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Cincinnati on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 3rd time he has done it in his career. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Zabel (10-15) struck out 2 and issued 2 BB, throwing 67 of 108 pitches for strikes. Brooklyn's first baseman Gene Paulette went 4 for 4. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Zabel. Brooklyn improved its record to 64-54, scoring 1 run on 12 hits.

CHICAGO (N) - Great days are rare. But not for Chicago (N)'s right-hander Dazzy Vance. Pittsburgh found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 5th shutout this season, and the 5th time he has done it in his career. With no outs in the 7th inning Jack Graney singled to break up the no-hitter. Vance (20-5) struck out 6 and walked 1, throwing 71 of 119 pitches for strikes. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Frank Gibson provided Chicago (N) with the offense Vance needed as he went 2 for 4, stroking a double, and collecting 3 RBI. The final score of the game was 7-0.
 
Friday 8/9/1916: Smokey Joe Wood shuts out Chicago (N) on one hit
BROOKLYN - Brooklyn's right-hander Smokey Joe Wood is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Chicago (N) found out the hard way, getting just one hit. Wood 5th shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 27th shutouts in his career. Wood (18-10) fanned 5 and walked 2, throwing 119 pitches. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Benny Kauff provided Brooklyn with the offense Wood needed as he finished 2 for 3, stroking a double. Brooklyn scored 1 run on 5 hits.

The best month of July in the American certainly had Detroit's right-hander Christy Mathewson, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. His record of 6-0 in 7 was among the leagues best this month. In 60 innings of work he allowed just 44 hits while striking out 37, compiling an ERA of just 1.50. Christy also fired a shutout. In 26 starts this year Christy struck out 134 batters in 226 innings of work. His ERA is 2.63, his record 18-6. He has 20 complete games and one shutout. He's 1st in the American in ERA and 2nd in wins! Winner of this months National Pitcher of the Month award is Chicago (N)'s Dazzy Vance. He struck out 41 hitters in his 7 starts, putting together a record of 5-1 while pitching 41 innings. His ERA in July was 1.62. Dazzy fired two shutouts! In 27 starts this year Dazzy struck out 186 batters in 238 innings of work. His ERA is 2.04, his record 17-5. Dazzy has pitched 4 shutouts and 20 complete games. The American's best player of the month was Detroit's Jake Daubert, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Jake was on fire, hitting .400 with 3 homeruns and 25 RBI. Daubert has walked 41 times this year and posts a .401 OBP. While batting .325, 126 for 388, he has driven in 76 runs. He's 9th in the American in batting, 5th in homeruns and 3rd in RBI! Chicago (N)'s centerfielder Ty Cobb had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National Batter of the Month. Ty went 49 for 107 (.458), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 17 RBI. Ty is hitting .423 this year, with 167 hits in 395 at bats. He has driven in 63 runs, slugging .580. Jesse Barnes of St.Louis(A) wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating American's hitters the entire week. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.00 while going 2-0. He was able to complete both starts of the week. In 9 starts this year Jesse struck out 21 batters in 79 innings of work. His ERA is 2.73, his record 5-2. Red Smith from Pittsburgh wins his 6th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National. He hit .652 with 4 RBI and slugged .913 in 23 at bats.

PHILADELPHIA (N) - Great days are rare. But not for Pittsburgh's right-hander Doc Crandall. Philadelphia (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 15th time he has done it in his career. Crandall (11-8) fanned 4 and walked 2, throwing 85 pitches. 'Pitching a great game is always a good thing. And it doesn't get much better than today.' George Sisler provided Pittsburgh with the offense Crandall needed as he finished with 3 hits in 5 AB, stroking a double, scoring twice. ST.LOUIS(A) - Great days are rare. But not for St.Louis(A)'s right-hander Joe Bush. Detroit found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 6th time he has done it in his career. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Bush (13-13) struck out 4 and issued 4 BB, throwing 64 of 123 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for St.Louis(A) was rightfielder Duffy Lewis, he finished 3 for 3. The final score of the game was 8-0.

WASHINGTON - Charlie Rhodes had some fun again. Washington hitters did not. Chicago (A)'s right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 5th shutout of the season. He now has 13 career shutouts in 210 games started. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Rhodes (11-10) struck out 7 and issued 3 BB, throwing 65 of 118 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Chicago (A) was centerfielder Dutch Zwilling, he got 2 hits in 4 AB, doubling once, and collecting 2 RBI. Chicago (A) scored 6 runs on 11 hits.
 
Wednesday 7/10/1916: Cincinnati's Hans Lobert gets the cycle
NEW YORK (N) - Hans Lobert is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. A single in the 2nd off Bill Doak accounted for his 1st hit. In the 5th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Bill Doak. Number 3 in the 7th inning accounted for a double. A pitch from Bill Doak in the 9th inning left his bat for a triple. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Hans scored 3 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! He now has a total of 81 hits this season, accounting for a .261 batting average. He becomes the 10th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 6/16/1916, Jack Fournier was the last player to hit for the cycle.
 
Monday 7/8/1916: Player of the Week honors go to Walsh and Hooper
It's the 7th time that the American Player of the Week award goes to Chicago (A)'s pitcher Ed Walsh. Ed went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00, while fanning 8 in 18 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. This season Walsh compiled an ERA of 3.50, going 10-10 in 21 starts. He fanned 76 while giving up 191 hits in 185 innings. He has 20 complete games and one shutout. Harry Hooper wins his 3rd Player of the Week award. National pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 20 at bats he hit .550 with 0 HR and 3 RBI.

CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s right-hander Ed Walsh is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Cleveland on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 29th time he has done it in his career. Walsh (10-10) fanned 6 and walked 2, throwing 119 pitches. 'Things like that happen. You take the mound and everything works. My velocity was pretty good today and I guess it showed.' The hitting star for Chicago (A) was first baseman Joe Harris, he finished 1 for 2, hitting a double, with 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 4-0.
 
Thursday 7/4/1916: Addie Joss earns 300th career win
ST.LOUIS (N) - St.Louis (N)'s right-hander Addie Joss gained immortality by recording his 300th win in the big leagues. He struck out 1 and walked 0 earned runs. Over 9 innings he allowed 0 earned runs and 7 hits. His career features a 2.56 ERA, along with 2220 K's in 5002 innings. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.' He set a career high with 27 wins in 1913. Joss won 20 or more games a season 8 times. It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame! The number he has put up are well worth it.
 
Monday 7/1/1916: McQuillan (BOA) and Wood (BRK) win monthly pitcher award
It's the 3rd time that the American Pitcher of the Month award goes to Boston (A)'s pitcher George McQuillan. He struck out 31 hitters in his 6 starts, putting together a record of 4-1 while pitching 31 innings. His ERA in June was 1.65. George also fired a shutout. George has a record of 9-6 this season, with an ERA of 3.20. In 146.1 Innings he was able to strike out 67 batters. George has pitched 2 shutouts and 10 complete games. Winner of this months National Pitcher of the Month award is Brooklyn's Smokey Joe Wood. His ERA of just 1.24 helped him to a 4-2 record in June. Thursday 6/20/1916: Smokey Joe Wood quiets Cincinnati bats with shutout
BROOKLYN - Brooklyn's right-hander Smokey Joe Wood is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Cincinnati found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Wood 3rd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 25th shutouts in his career. Wood (10-8) fanned 7 and walked 7, throwing 156 pitches. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Brooklyn's shortstop Ernie Johnson stroked 3 hits in 4 AB. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Wood. Monday 6/17/1916: Collins and Shawkey win Player of the Week award
The American's best player of the week was New York (A)'s Eddie Collins, who wins the award for the 12th time in his career. Eddie went 11 for 20 (.550), while hitting 0 HR and collecting 7 RBI. Sunday 6/16/1916: Jack Fournier hits for the cycle against Washington
NEW YORK (A) - Jack Fournier is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. A single in the 4th off Elmer Steele accounted for his 1st hit. A pitch from Elmer Steele in the 5th inning left his bat for a RBI double. In the 7th inning he unloaded a triple off Harry Krause. His 4th hit, a solo homerun off Ray Fisher in the 8th inning, cleared the fence in right-center. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Jack scored 3 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 74 hits in 232 at bats, resulting in a .319 batting average. He becomes the 9th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. On 7/22/1915, Doc Miller was the last player to hit for the cycle.
 
Saturday 6/15/1916: Nick Cullop blanks St.Louis (N) with a 2-hitter
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s southpaw Nick Cullop is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking St.Louis (N) on just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 6th time he has done it in his career. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Cullop (11-4) struck out 5 and issued 3 BB, throwing 62 of 110 pitches for strikes. Chicago (N)'s centerfielder Ty Cobb got 2 hits in 3 AB, scoring two runs with 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Cullop. Chicago (N) scored 8 runs on 10 hits.
 
Saturday 6/15/1916: Chicago (A)'s Summers severely injured, out for season
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s right-hander Ed Summers experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 4th inning of the game against Detroit, Summers complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Ruptured Disc Back which will require surgery. This season Summers compiled an ERA of 5.52, going 6-10 in 17 starts. He fanned 42 while giving up 174 hits in 133.2 innings.
 
Thursday 6/13/1916: Boston (A)'s Scott out for 5 weeks
BOSTON (A) - Boston (A) is without its right-hander Jim Scott for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Tris Speaker in a game against Cleveland. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Strained Back Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. In 17 starts this year Jim struck out 86 batters in 142 innings of work. His ERA is 3.36, his record 6-6. Jim has pitched 2 shutouts and 11 complete games.
 
Tuesday 6/11/1916: Philadelphia (N)'s Tesreau severely injured
PHILADELPHIA (N) - When it rains, it pours. Philadelphia (N)'s right-hander Jeff Tesreau will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Pittsburgh where he left the field in the 8th inning. Tesreau was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Pulled Tricep Muscle. Jeff has a record of 1-1 this season, with an ERA of 5.06. In 10.2 Innings he was able to strike out 6 batters.
 
Monday 6/10/1916: Drucke and Milan win Player of the Week award
Louis Drucke of New York (A) wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for dominating American's hitters the entire week. Drucke was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.06. Along the way he struck out 5 in 17 innings. A complete game added to his brilliant performance. The Player of the Week award in the National goes to St.Louis (N)'s Clyde Milan this time, as the rightfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Clyde went 11 for 22 (.500), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 6 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Clyde has gone 69 for 220 (.314) this season, hitting 5 homeruns and driving in 43 runs. He has scored 44 runs on his own. He's 4th in the National in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!
 
Monday 6/3/1916: Boston (N)'s Grahame wins Player of the Week award
Tilly Walker wins his 1st Player of the Week award. American pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He had an on base percentage of .464 and hit .464, while driving in 10 runs. Tilly is hitting .302 this year, with 61 hits in 202 at bats. He has driven in 50 runs, slugging .480. He's 1st in the American in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! Bill Grahame of Boston (N) wins his 10th Player of the Week award for dominating National's hitters the entire week. Grahame was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.53. Along the way he struck out 11 in 17 innings. A complete game added to his brilliant performance.
 
Saturday 6/1/1916: Grimes and Kroh receive Pitcher of the Month award
The best month of May in the American certainly had New York (A)'s right-hander Burleigh Grimes, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He had an ERA of just 1.89 in 62 innings of work in which he struck out 35 hitters. His record in May is 6-0. Burleigh pitched a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .243 against Burleigh this season. While posting an ERA of 2.61 he went 11-2 in 14 starts, fanning 70 and walking 25 hitters. Burleigh has pitched 2 shutouts and 11 complete games. He's 4th in the American in ERA and 1st in wins! New York (A)'s pitcher Rube Kroh is the American winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in May. His ERA of just 1.43 helped him to a 6-1 record in May. He worked 63 innings, striking out 32 hitters while walking 19. Rube pitched a shutout as well. His ERA of 2.83 helped him to a 9-5 record this year. He struck out 60 and walked 38 in 124 innings. He has 12 complete games and 3 shutouts. He's 9th in the American in ERA and 3rd in wins!

PHILADELPHIA (A) - Detroit's right-hander Hi West is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Philadelphia (A) found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Noodles Hahn pitched like a legend in April, and the American named him Pitcher of the Month for his extraordinary performance. Pittsburgh's pitcher Doc Crandall is the National winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in April.
